Websites for shops

A site that gets people through the door

Most local shop searches are checking if you're open and what you sell before they visit. Your site needs to answer both fast, whether or not you sell online too.

What your customers are typing into Google

  • “gift shop near me”
  • “homewares shop near me”
  • “bookshop near me”
  • “opening hours near me”
  • “shop near me open now”
  • “click and collect near me”
  • “where to buy near me”

What your website needs to do

Hours and location that match Google exactly

A shop's hours are one of the most-checked pieces of information on its whole site. They need to match your Google Business Profile precisely, including public holidays.

A sense of what's actually in the shop

Even without a full online shop, photos and categories of what you stock, homewares, gifts, books, whatever it is, help a browser decide it's worth the drive before they arrive.

Click and collect or a stock enquiry option

Letting someone check if you've got an item, or reserve it, catches sales that would otherwise go to a bigger store with obvious online stock. It doesn't need to be a full shop to help.

Real photos of the shopfront and inside

A photo of your actual shopfront helps people find you and recognise it when they arrive, and interior photos give a feel for the space before anyone walks in.

A path to sell online, even a small one

Not every retailer needs a full online shop, but having a handful of popular products available to buy online catches customers who found you on a search but can't get in today.

Common mistakes to avoid

No indication of what's actually for sale

A shop site that's all atmosphere and no products leaves visitors guessing whether it's worth the trip. Even a simple list of categories beats nothing at all.

Hours out of sync with Google

When your website says one set of hours and Google Business Profile says another, customers turn up at the wrong time and blame the shop, not the mismatch.

No way to buy or reserve anything online

A browser who's decided they want an item but can't get to the shop today will often just buy it from a competitor who lets them order online instead.

Getting found on Google

For local retail, the Google Business Profile usually does more heavy lifting than the website, so the right product categories, regular photos and posts about new stock all matter. On the site itself, category pages, gifts, homewares, whatever your range covers, give Google something to match against near me and product searches, and a click and collect or stock enquiry option turns a browsing visit into a sale. Reviews help too, especially for shops competing against bigger chains on convenience rather than range. None of this replaces foot traffic, but it makes sure people searching nearby know you exist and what you sell.

Questions from shops

Can you build us a full online shop?

We don't build shops with a checkout. If you want to sell online, Shopify or Square Online are good options. We can link your site to one, or add a simple reserve-this-item form as part of the build. For a custom shop, our sister studio ClickTheory can help.

Can we add a page for each product category?

Yes, within the 5 pages. Most shops give their two or three main categories a page each, and we help combine the rest.

How do we let people know about new stock or sales?

Your site includes a simple news section for new arrivals or promotions that you can post to yourself, no need to touch the rest of the site.

Can you set up click and collect?

We can add a simple stock enquiry or reserve form as part of the build. We don't build checkouts, so for full click and collect with payment, Square Online or Shopify is a good option, and we can link your site to it. For a custom build, our sister studio ClickTheory can help.
